Custom Made Cuts

Our custom swimwear is designed in-house by our very own fashion designer, from the fabrics to the features as well as the cut and the styling of each garment. With comfort, style, and practicality in mind, every little detail is carefully thought out by a specialist. This unique pattern is then sized for a variety of different sizes to offer you a great range. We measure these sizes in inches and in centimetres, and then input them into a handy table to make sure you can easily find out which size you will need.

Personalised Prints

Design your own swimwear and create your own unique style. Use photos, faces, a collage for a personal pair, or add text, a name, or even a logo to your piece. Anything you can think up and create is possible, and our simple to use online design tool will help you see exactly what it will look like on the finished item. You can even choose some of the finer details when you design your own bathing suit for men, such as the stitching thread colour or the drawstring colour, depending on the style.

A Brief History

Historically, bathing and swimming would be done nude; this is how it was for centuries. During the 18th century each town could make their own laws with regards to what should be worn while swimming. In the mid-19th century, the UK made it law that men would no longer be able to swim naked. Since that time, swimwear has gone from a wool suit which resembled a thermal all-in-one, to the trunks and shorts we know today.

Men's Swimwear Styles

There are a variety of different types of men's swimwear, most of which are still quite strongly based on historical styling. Swim briefs are similar in appearance to 'briefs', a type of underwear. Dating back at least as far as the 1930s, it is most likely that the swimwear came before the underwear. Early versions were made of wool, with a canvas waist belt, and over the years these have been made from various fabrics including nylon, spandex, and poly materials.

Trunks differ in meaning dependant on locality. In the US this would be a loose-fitting, mid-thigh cut, which we would commonly refer to as swim shorts. In Australia, the phrase 'trunks' when associated with swimwear tends to refer to tighter fitting, brief cut shorts. Swim shorts sit around the mid-thigh and have a looser fit; these would usually have a brief shaped lining inside.

Board shorts are a longer version of swim shorts that would sit around knee length - either just above or just below. These shorts were originally for board sports, including but not limited to surfing and wake boarding. These are not specifically swimwear however are often made from quick drying material and are perfectly fine if they get wet.

Printing on Swimwear

We have come a long way from wool and canvas swim shorts, however options are still somewhat limited. Men's swimwear tends to feature 'traditionally masculine' colouring, with very few patterns and details available. Those that do have patterns are not always printed, they are often a transfer or just a logo emblem made from a different material and stuck on or occasionally embroidered.
