Birthdays. A rare 24 hours where the spotlight is focused exclusively on you, but modestly, you accept this inevitability. (Who am I kidding? Every day in my house is a celebration of my sheer existence and fabulousness). So when someone forgets your birthday, it\u2019s an awkward moment filled with different emotions. On the one hand, you\u2019re mortified an event of such magnitude could be forgotten, but on the other hand, you realise that to most people it\u2019s just another day of the week. No different to yesterday, no better than tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How dare they.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So because you\u2019re not the only diva out there, here\u2019s 11 things that go through your head when someone forgets your birthday. How do I know? I think them too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. \u201cBut I remembered theirs?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You make a mental note not to never send them a Happy Birthday message on Facebook ever again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. \u201cIt\u2019s not like they\u2019ve even got lots going on\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You scroll through their social media looking to see how much time they\u2019ve spent doing other non-important things like visiting family, working and looking after their children. To which you conclude, they had exactly 17 minutes spare that they didn\u2019t<\/em> use to buy your gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. \u201cI spent hours choosing their present!\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You thought about their interests, hobbies, favourite scent, favourite food, future plans, preferred style, the interior design of their home\u2026 Although you don\u2019t give to receive, you can\u2019t help but feel somewhat shortchanged here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. \u201cWell, they bought [shared close friend] a birthday present\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ultimate betrayal, but you still have to smile and act interested whenever your friend mentions or uses their (unfairly bought) birthday present. It\u2019s a true test of your facial expression abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. \u201cOkay, that\u2019s fine, I\u2019ll just conveniently forget theirs too.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t even care about the seriously high levels of pettiness going on, this is a justified case of tit for tat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. \u201cWe\u2019ve been talking for 10 minutes and they still haven\u2019t said Happy Birthday.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your body language is screaming \u2018I\u2019M WAITING FOR YOU TO SAY SOMETHING BEFORE I ACT NORMAL\u2019 but at the same time you have to nod along and interject with fake laughs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. \u201cMaybe I should have reminded them?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But then you laugh at yourself for having such a ridiculous thought. People have Facebook, online calendars \u2013 they could even have studied the astrological star constellations to work it out! There\u2019s no excuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8. \u201cMaybe they\u2019re doing it on purpose as a joke?!\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your inner diva leads you to think all of this \u2018forgotten your birthday\u2019 fodder is just part of the build up towards a big, surprise birthday spectacular. It probably isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
9. \u201cI\u2019ll give it another hour and then I\u2019ll definitely say something\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An hour goes by, so obviously you postpone the big confrontation for another hour. Unintentionally, it\u2019s now turned into a standoff, but it\u2019s more a standoff with yourself as the other person doesn\u2019t know or care what\u2019s going on in your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
10. \u201cWait, is it actually my birthday?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At some stage in this emotional breakdown when someone forgets your birthday, you\u2019ll even question whether you\u2019ve got the right day. \u201cDoes Daylight Saving Time move entire days<\/em> forward and back? Did I sleep for 72 hours? What year is it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
11. \u201cYou know what, they\u2019ve probably got bigger and more tropical fish to fry\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

And you know what? They probably have, but that\u2019s life and it\u2019s okay. When someone forgets your birthday, it\u2019s normal to have these thoughts, but don\u2019t let it ruin your day! There\u2019s always next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
